Shakespeare's Globe biography

Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the original Globe Theatre which was built in London in 1599 by the theatre company Shakespeare was a member of, the Lord Chamberlain's Men. The modern-day reconstruction of the Globe Theatre was opened to the public in 1997 and has become a popular tourist attraction as well as an active theatre, putting on productions of Shakespeare's plays as well as other works.

Shakespeare's Globe controversies

There have been some controversies surrounding Shakespeare's Globe, mainly due to the lack of historical accuracy in the reconstruction. The original Globe Theatre had a thatched roof, whereas the modern reconstruction has a fireproofed one, and there is also some debate around the dimensions and layout of the theatre. However, these controversies have not affected the popularity or success of the Globe Theatre as a cultural institution.
